Calderys aims at helping its customer achieve their targets :

To ensure efficient and safe plugging and easy mud-gun nozzle cleaning

  • by providing low injection pressure at optimal injection speed, avoiding tap-hole clay leakage or any bad material compaction in tap-hole;
  • by ensuring reliable plug even with short mud-gun holding time, avoiding blow-outs, self openings, splashes and fumes which is of prime importance for the safety of the casthouse operators;
  • by avoiding premature drying and hardening or overly soft material in the mud-gun before, during and after injection by specific control of the tap-hole clay hardening kinetics.

To improve productivity by safe furnace opening and efficient hearth drainage

  • by an easy and quick tap-hole drill-out avoiding any opening delay and any tap-hole damage due to an excessive use of the hammer percussion or oxygen opening;
  • by increasing the length of the tap-hole service life while reducing the clay consumption;
  • by smooth opening and non splashy casts with well calibrated streams even by short inter-tap intervals, provided by the controlled hardening and sintering of the tap-hole clay;
  • by consistent tap-hole, providing good and consistent hot metal flow-rate mastered by the high iron and slag corrosion resistance, thus allowing an increasing drill diameter, a reduction of the casts number and an increase of cast duration.

To increase the service life of the blast furnace hearth

  • by reducing the hearth and tap-hole wear due to high resistance against iron and slag corrosion;
  • by building a strong and stable tap-hole clay mushroom that prevents appearance of cracks, gas tracking and hot metal infiltration generally causing temperature increase on the blast furnace shell around the tap-hole face;
  • by sticking of the newly injected tap-hole clay on the residual layers of clay in the tap-hole funnel and mushroom.
